TV Workshop: Crafting a Scripted Drama Series

🎥 Embarking on your very own journey towards a TV Series?
This session is best suited for those wishing to get into writing for and/or developing new scripted television series. It will explore the considerations that must be taken when working up, writing and pitching a new idea, focussing specifically on series arcs, character development and mapping your narrative journey. We'll delve into popular techniques for crafting a story, and leave workshop attendees with tips and resources to continue their writing journey.

The different kinds of Series Arcs that captivate audiences in the realm of TV series.
How does that vary across genres, and what impact does it have on viewer engagement?
• Mapping the Journey
Learn practical techniques for mapping out a series arc that spans multiple seasons, from establishing a compelling beginning to planning satisfying resolutions and cliffhangers.
• Balancing Continuity and Flexibility:
Explore strategies for maintaining continuity and coherence throughout the series while allowing room for creative evolution and adaptation based on audience feedback and changing storytelling needs.

The return of Melody Ruiz!
Melody has been developing and producing high-profile, award-winning television for 14 years – both in the UK and internationally.
She has worked for broadcasters such as the BBC, Channel 4 and Apple TV+.
She has a wealth of experience across both scripted and unscripted television and has spent a majority of her career mentoring, often helping entry level people and people transitioning from other fields break into the TV industry.
Her credits include The Real Marigold Hotel (BBC One), The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds (Channel 4) and Bad Sisters (Apple TV+).

We have a limited number of concession tickets available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you identify as working class, are currently on benefits, or if you consider yourself to be financially disadvantaged in a way that is hindering your progression in your career, these tickets are available to you.

The money towards Workshops such as these means that we can keep them as low as they are, pay our Freelance Workshop leaders, support the organisation to be sustainable, and when we can, make more of our services available for Free._
